Speed-to-Market Case Study


Case Study: Memorex’s Marketing Director came to us and said, "I've got a trade show in just four weeks and the new case for our latest memory chip is the centerpiece of our booth. Problem is I've got one prototype, and it's sculpted out of opaque material. Our new case is translucent and I need 200 samples of three sets of colors. I haven't found a supplier who can do it. Can you help?" We went straight to work.
Speed-to-Market is the name of the game. We worked hand-in-hand with the designer and moldmaker to complete a moldable three-part design immediately. Polycarbonate and acrylic samples were specified and rush sourced. We used our rapid build mold system, which allowed us to build cavity and core inserts for our standardized mold base system already fitted with water and ejection systems. Hand loaded inserts were made to form hinge and latch areas. TIME and MONEY were saved. The mold was done in three weeks.
Two nights before the show, the cases were molded, assembled and shipped. The Marketing Director later said "The case was the hit of the show! Our salesmen were writing orders because they had samples in hand." Speed-to-Market makes the difference.
